Is It A Cold? Or Is It Allergies?
(posted on 08 04, 2011)
To begin with, allergies and colds are often mistaken for one another due to their similar symptoms; however, when looked on at a closer level, allergies and colds are differ greatly. For example, allergies often begin with watery eyes, clear mucus, and a persistent ear, nose, and throat ache; whereas, a cold often includes a cough, severe sore throat, thick, irritating, yellow mucus, and fatigue. A fever is not asymptomatic of colds, but if the fever persists, you should seek the aid of a medical professional. Also, colds are often resolved within two weeks; however, allergies that are seasonally dependent may last for over a month.
How do I treat it?
There are many different over-the-counter and prescriptive ways to treat colds and allergies, a few of them are:
- Antihistamines
- Decongestants
- Nasal Sprays/Drops
- Ibuprofen/Tylenol
Allergies:
